Annual Blowing Rock Tour of Homes to take place on July 23

In our Directory of Live Web Cams in North Carolina, you’ll find our Blowing Rock Cam, which showcases one of the High Country’s most charming communities. Blowing Rock North Carolina is an idyllic town filled with quaint shops, fine restaurants, and beautiful homes. Hundreds of thousands of tourists are drawn to this small city each year by its ideal climate, its spectacular views, and the many Blowing Rock Events and activities that take place here throughout the year. For over 50 years, St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock has been celebrating the town’s rich history and fascinating lifestyle by offering visitors a glimpse into some of the most spectacular Homes in Blowing Rock North Carolina. This year’s Blowing Rock Tour of Homes is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 23, 2010, and will allow architecture aficionados to admire some of the Blowing Rock’s most prominent homes from the inside out.

For $25, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the four homes that will be spotlighted during this year’s Blowing Rock Tour of Homes. The newest edition to the landscape, Katydid, is just a year old; Stonehenge was constructed on the site of the former maid headquarters at the historic Mayview Hotel; Golden Hill has been remodeled to resemble an English manor house; and Green Gates is a former art studio where old meets new. This year’s homes are within walking distance of one another, but participants can also opt to take advantage of the private car that will transport them from their meeting place to St. Mary of the Hills.

Free parking is available at Hayes Performing Arts Center, and trolleys will depart at 20 minute intervals to transport participants to St. Mary of the Hills. The Blowing Rock Tour of Homes begins at 9 a.m. and the last group will depart at 2 p.m. Those who want to learn more about St. Mary of the Hills will have the opportunity to speak to docents who will be on site until 4 p.m. to answer questions about the church’s history. Bistro Roca will donate lunch boxes which will be available for a cost of $10 a piece starting at 11 a.m., and a mouthwatering selection of homemade treats will be available at the food tent from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those seeking souvenirs will enjoy perusing the selection of handmade objects, and local merchants will donate items for a silent auction.

Around 1,800 participants are expected to attend this event, the proceeds from which go to charitable organizations such as OASIS and the Hospitality House of Boone. In years past, the Blowing Rock Tour of Homes has raised approximately $90,000 dollars for local charities. Tickets are available at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church and can also be purchased at the Blowing Rock Visitor’s Center. They will be available on the day of the event.
