The Area - High Country - Boone NC

Boone NC is situated right in the heart of the High Country and is the largest town in this region in terms of population and size. Horn in the West

Horn in the West is the oldest "show" attraction in Boone, and one of the longest continuously running outdoor dramas in the country. It first debuted in 1952 and since has run each summer. Today, it is staged in its very own outdoor amphitheatre, located near Appalachian State University. The drama is set during the Revolutionary period and follows an American family through its many struggles. Horn in the West is situated right off of Hwy 321 on Horn in the West Drive near Daniel Boone Gardens and Boone's Arboretum.

Appalachian State University

Appalachian State University is the foremost four-year liberal arts university in Western North Carolina and the home of the Mountaineers. Students come to App State University to enhance their education and further their life paths, and the school annually hosts An Appalachian Summer Festival and the ASU Performing Arts Series which bring numerous talented artists and acts to the stages of Farthing Auditorium, Holmes Convocation Center, and the school’s other popular entertainment venues. Also, the school's football, basketball, and other sports teams are quite popular, and are great Boone Attractions to check out. Turchin Center for the Visual Arts

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts is the largest art gallery and exhibition facility of its kind in all of Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, and Southwestern Virginia. It is a part of Appalachian State University's Division of University Advancement and is a wonderful asset to the Boone community. Locals and vacationer patrons can browse and tour the hall for free, or attend one of its many popular exhibition events, including the First Friday Art Crawl events that take place during the warmer months in Boone on the first Friday of each month. It is located in Downtown Boone on King Street.

Boone Golf Course

Boone Golf Course and the Boone Golf Club is one of the best public mountain courses in the High Country. The Boone Golf Club is surrounded by lush greens, fantastic fairways and is one of the most beautiful courses that you can play. Visitors to Boone NC love playing at Boone Golf Club, especially in summer months when the weather is perfect for mountain golf! The Boone Golf Course is located off of Hwy 321, portions of the course can be seen from Deerfield Rd near Watauga Memorial Hospital.

The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is just one reason that the Boone area has such high appeal amongst vacationers seeking outdoor adventure. The "parkway" as it is referred to by those familiar with the area, is a scenic, All-American Road that passes through our region as it snakes its way through 469 miles of the Appalachian Mountain terrain in Western North Carolina on to Virginia's Shenandoah National Park. Much of the land that the Blue Ridge Parkway NC passes through near Boone NC and the surrounding areas is owned by the United States Forest Service and is considered some of the most beautiful preserved land in the state. Cone Manor House in Blowing Rock, the Linn Cove Viaduct near Grandfather Mountain, and Linville Falls near Linville NC.
