Boone Skiing

In the cold, winter months, when temperatures around the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC drop well below freezing, the High Country resort town of Boone becomes a haven for winter sports, especially Skiing and snowboarding. It helps that Boone receives a good bit of natural snow each season, however the excellent, cold temperatures provide the perfect conditions for snowmaking, hence why the most popular North Carolina Ski Resorts are located in the surrounding areas of the High Country. Boone is actually not home to any one Ski Resort; however, three major North Carolina Ski Resorts are located within a short drive from the town, making it a hub for skiers and snowboarders.

One place that many choose to go Skiing is in the nearby village of Blowing Rock. In Blowing Rock, atop a mountain that rises to 4,000 feet above sea level, is App Ski Mtn, a Ski Area that is literally just 10 to 15 minutes from Boone. Many people stay in Boone and then make the short trip to Appalachian Ski Mtn to enjoy the Skiing and boarding there. Others, especially avid skiers, head up to the Ski Resorts at Ski Beech and Sugar Ski. These resorts are located atop Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain, respectively. You can find additional helpful info on Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain by clicking around.
