Check out the New River Blues Festival this Labor Day Weekend!

This weekend, the River House Country Inn & Restaurant in Ashe County North Carolina will host the seventh New River Blues Festival. This annual extravaganza will take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 5. Tickets are just $12 in advance or $15 at the gate, and children 12 and under are free.

This year’s event will feature talented artists such as Sammy Blue, Drink Small, Shrimp City Slim, Juke Joint Johnny, the King Bees Blues Revue, and Ike and Val Woods. Sammy Blue, who has been officially recognized by his home state with an induction into the Georgia Hall of Fame, has been publicly admired by such artists as Taj Mahal and even shared the stage with legends like Otis Rush and Muddy Waters. Drink Small, a native of South Carolina, has also been inducted into his home state’s hall of fame. The 77-year-old has not allowed his advanced age to slow him down; he still performs regularly at various festivals throughout the country. The King Bees will be lending their finely honed talent to the lineup, as well as performing hosting duties. Val and Ike Woods, who hail from Miami, will be presenting their unique brand of blues and soul, and Shrimp City Slim will be accompanied by harmonica prodigy Juke Joint Johnny.

The River House Country Inn & Restaurant, which has graciously agreed to let festival planners utilize its riverfront property for this popular event, is a full service inn located deep within the Blue Ridge Mountains, yet close enough to more metropolitan areas like West Jefferson NC and Boone North Carolina. The river affords guests endless opportunities for recreation, and the inn is fully stocked with books, art, antiques, and Jacuzzis. A restaurant and bar are located on the premises. The River House’s rural location means guests are able to partake in their favorite outdoor pursuits, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery, all while remaining close to the amenities offered by nearby communities.
