Grandfather Mountain’s Kidfest is this Weekend!

Our Grandfather Mountain Webcam showcases one of our area’s most recognizable geographical features. More than simply a landmark, Grandfather Mountain North Carolina is one of the state’s most popular attractions because of the natural beauty and family-friendly fun that abound on its mile-high ridges. On Saturday, September 11, the Grandfather Mountain State Park invites kids to participate in its annual Kidfest. The purpose of this day is to instill in children a love for the unique environment and heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the exciting array of activities that have been planned are certain to do just that.

At this year’s Kidfest, children will have the opportunity to pose their questions to Keith Mastin of Western NC Nature Center who will be available in the Nature Museum Lobby throughout the day. At 9 a.m. a guided hike along the Woods Walk trail will be lead by naturalist Katie Gray who will point out all of the most interesting natural features of this biologically diverse environment. Thanks to the Watauga County Public Library, children will have the opportunity to enjoy a story while they make a craft from 10 to 11. At 11, the live demonstration Birds of the Blue Ridge will take place at the Nature Museum Auditorium, children will have the chance to get their faces painted at the Fudge Shop from 11 to 2, and the Nature Museum Lobby will play host to nature crafts from 12 to 2. Glen Bollick will delight listeners of all ages with stories in the Nature Museum Auditorium from 1 to 3, and staff will be available to answer any and all questions about the animal habitats from 3 to 4. The day will conclude with the game “Quick Frozen Critters,” which will take place at the Woods Walk trail and which aims to teach children about the hardships animals must face to survive in the natural environment.
