Hilton Head Island Beach

The Island of Hilton Head has about 14 miles of beach areas. You can find Beach Access on the Atlantic coastline of the island, and in the regions where the island looks out at Calibogue Sound and Port Royal Sound. Here we have mentioned a few of the Hilton Head Beaches with special notes on what each offers. Certainly one of the best things about Hilton Head Island South Carolina is the beach and the wonderful activities that you can enjoy there. The Beaches of Hilton Head offer not only sunbathing, swimming, and Fishing, but other fun activities such as beach biking, volleyball, wave surfing, kite flying, shelling, crabbing, and so much more. Read on to learn more about Hilton Head Island Beach and the Beaches found throughout.

There are six Public Access Beaches (5 of these have life guards on duty from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day). Pay parking is available at all of them but the Islanders Beach Park and there are reserved spots for those who purchase annual beach parking tags (these special tags are available only to Hilton Head Property owners).

South End Beaches/Alder Lane

If you visit the Hilton Head Beaches near Alder Lane you can park across
South Forest Beach Road at the meters. This Beach, which is near the Marriott Grand Ocean Resort, one of the inviting Hotels, is quiet and tucked away from it all. At this beach you will find restrooms and a drink machine; if you have lodging reserved near the south end of Hilton Head Island, then this is a great, relatively unknown area. This beach is also wheelchair accessible via mats.

Coligny Beach

This Hilton Head Beach can be found where Coligny Circle and Pope Avenue meet with South Forest Beach Drive. Coligny Beach is the most populated and busiest area Beach; here you will find amenities such as volleyball nets, a nice outdoor bar near the beach at the Holiday Inn Beach Hotel. Here lifeguards are on duty and you can rent beach equipment such as Hobie Cats, recumbent bikes, sand trikes, and umbrellas. This location is also wheelchair accessible via mats. Parking for Coligny Beach can be found behind the Smokehouse restaurant in the town’s parking lot. Access it via Pope Avenue across from the Exxon Station; there is a cost for parking here. You can come and go and, as long as you keep your receipt, you will not have to pay again if you leave and come back the same day. Also there is parking on Coligny Circle on the North side of the area. The business park nearby, Coligny Plaza, offers many Shops and Restaurants and cafés. Business owners ask that you please do not park in the plaza’s parking lot to go to the beach; your vehicle may be towed.

Singleton Beach – Dreissen Beach Park

Singleton Beach can be found off William Hilton Parkway at Bradley Beach Road. This area has lifeguards, plenty of great parking, restrooms, sand showers, and vending machines. Families like this area because it has a playground, picnic tables, and a grilling area. The beach is wheelchair accessible via mats and there is a boardwalk, although the boardwalk here is quite long. If you park and explore here, take note of the number on your parking space because when you pay at the machine in the building that houses the restrooms, you will need to know your number. The machine takes quarters.

Folly Field Beach

Folly Field Beach is located on Hilton Head Island just off Starfish Road; the beach is found off of Folly Field Rd. Parking for this Beach is limited (there are only 52 metered spaces), but at this location there are lifeguards on duty, restrooms, sand showers, and water fountains. The Folly Field Beach area is known for its rip tide and powerful undertows, and swimmers are advised to be cautious and careful; because of the powerful currents here, this beach is popular with amateur surfers. This beach is also wheelchair accessible via the mat system.

Fish Haul Creek Park – Mitchellville Beach Park

This beach is on the Port Royal Sound side of the island, and if you desire privacy, it may be worth visiting. There is little parking near the beach, but if you park and take the walk, you will be virtually alone as hardly anyone ever uses this beach area on the island. You can enjoy some privacy and even cast out a line.

Islander’s Beach Club

This beach is intended to be for locals as parking is only available to those who have purchased annual permits, which are only available to Hilton Head Property owners. However, there is nothing stopping anyone from visiting the park by bike or having someone drop your party off. You will find restrooms, changing rooms, a playground, drink machine, sand showers, and picnic tables, and the beach is wheelchair accessible. The beach is located off Folly Field Road at Sparkleberry Lane.

Burke’s Beach

This Hilton Head Island Beach is located off William Hilton Parkway (278 Bus. Route) at Burke’s Beach Road. There is virtually no parking here and there are no amenities or lifeguards. This is not a very popular beach, but it is still worth mentioning if you want to explore all of the coastline on the island. Because this Beach is so secluded, it often makes a good spot for solitary Beach Fishing.
