Merlefest Brings Zack Brown Band to the High Country

Thousands have made the trip to Wilkesboro for this year’s Merlefest 2012 and the High Country will be filled with the sights and sounds of bluegrass the entire weekend.  The 4 day festival welcomes more than 90 artists this year to 14 various stages that are set up across the campus of Wilkes Community College.  Last night the Zack Brown Band took the stage under a blanket of beautiful stars and we are sure that the weekend’s line up of concerts and impromptu performances will likely be as perfect.

Per tradition, Grammy award winning artist, Doc Watson will headline the festival and he is bringing along The Doobie Brothers, Randy Travis, Lyle Lovett, Zac Brown Band, Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, The Waybacks, Joan Osburne, and countless other bands, singers and songwriters to this year’s lineup.

Merlefest, founded in 1988, is the primary fundraising event for Wilkes Community College.  Doc Watson founded the festival over two decades ago after his son and musician Merle Watson was tragically killed in a farm accident only three years before its founding. The festival brings together the best in bluegrass, folk and Americana music and is a hugely popular event every year.

If you are planning a trip up, for the weekend or for just the day of a show, check out the High Country Weather, and take a peek at the various Mountain Web Cams.  High Country Web Cams showcases some great views nearby.  Click to see the Blowing Rock Cam, Boone NC Cams, and the Watauga Lake Cams.  It’s a great weekend to come up and enjoy some great music and near perfect weekend!
