The Area – High Country – Beech Mountain NC-Buckeye Recreation Center

There’s really no doubt about it – the Buckeye Recreation Center is the heart of the Beech Mountain community and where many community events, fundraisers, and concerts take place year round. The center is a new 22,500-square-foot facility that houses numerous recreational opportunities, including indoor basketball, volleyball, tennis, a fitness/exercise room, a conference room with catering facility, and a playroom for children under 12. It is named for and near Buckeye Lake, which is also a centerpiece of the town. Softball fields, a playground for children, and a loop with several hiking and biking trails surround Buckeye Lake on Beech Mountain.

Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Beech Mountain Easter Egg Hunt at Buckeye Rec Center is a fun event that takes place over Easter weekend. Children love gathering at the scenic area and enjoying the best that spring has to offer on Beech Mountain North Carolina, elevation 5,506 feet.

July 3-4th Annual Roasting of the Hog & Fireworks

The roasting of the hog and fireworks display over the Fourth of July weekend has become a Beech Mountain tradition that no one wants to break. The barbecue and other “fixin’s” are always delicious and the community spirit is always alive and well over this Independence Day celebration on the mountain.

Dancing in the Streets at Town Hall

Dancing in the Streets is a series of Saturday night concerts and dancing that take place in the warm months of summer, between July and September. Usually, the concerts are scheduled well in advance and feature a DJ, great live music, as well as great dancing.

Beech Mountain Mile High Kite Festival

The Beech Mountain Kite Festival has been in existence for almost a decade now and welcomes visitors from all over to the amazing summit of Beech Mountain for kite flying and other fun crafts and games in September.

Autumn at Oz Festival Beech Mountain

The Oz Festival is perhaps the most well-known area Festival. The event, which takes place in October, pays tribute to the movie The Wizard of Oz and the former theme park that took its themes from the movie atop Beech Mountain. Visitors to the festival can tour the remnants of the park which includes the Yellow Brick Road, Auntie Em’s farm, and, of course, a slew of characters that you don’t want to miss!

The month of December brings Christmas Tree Choose n Cut season to the High Country and the Christmas Tree Farms in Avery County that are located on Beech Mountain are some of the most popular Farms that people visit to find the perfect Tree.
