Here mountains such as Mt Mitchell rise in the horizon and pristine, protected forests such as the Pisgah National Forest surround the lands. Located at the base of Mt. Mitchell, the adorable small town has lots of special qualities. There are numerous locally owned businesses in town that offer shopping, dining and a variety of other services and several great Cabins for lodging for vacation getaways. Many people like to enjoy Burnsville as it is located right outside of Mt. Mitchell, and can be considered the mountain’s base of operations. Mt Mitchell is the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in eastern North America if you do not include certain island summits. It is located about 32 miles away from Asheville and includes Mount Mitchell State Park.
