High Country Wine Tasting Events

Lately it seems the High Country has been getting its fair share of blizzard like weather with plenty of snow falling along with ice, sleet, and even freezing rain. We know that our visitors love to check out the Western NC Webcams to see what the weather is like on the roads and atop their favorite mountains and ski resorts. While it might seem like the only thing to do right now in the area is enjoy the snow and cold conditions outside by skiing, snowboarding, etc., there is plenty to do outside of the area’s NC Ski Resorts for folks that might not be interested in hitting the slopes. One thing that many enjoy are area wine tastings, so here’s a bit about some of the upcoming wine tasting events in the High Country areas of Boone NC and Banner Elk North Carolina:

Boone Mall – Free Wine Tastings hosted by Chateau Laurinda will be offered Febuary 11-14th, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Chateau Laurinda is a great local winery nestled in Alleghany County NC in the quaint town of Sparta. This NC Mountain Winery produces over 30 flavors of wine and specializes in fruit varieties. We love that it’s all natural, locally grown, and bottled right in Sparta. In addition to the winery, Chateau Laurinda also has a great getaway lodge located on the property as well. At the Boone Mall tastings, you can sample the special Valentine’s Heart’s Desire semi-sweet red wine as well as other classics. Head over and pick up a bottle for Valentine’s Day!

Banner Elk Winery Tours & Tastings – The Banner Elk Winery is open for tours and tastings Wednesdays through Sundays from noon until five. The Banner Elk Winery is situated on a 20-acre working blueberry farm that also has a quaint little Banner Elk Inn and villa located on the property. Visit the winery and enjoy the lovely setting and scenery while sampling varieties of their NC Mountain Wines. The Banner Elk Winery is located on Gualtney Road, which can be found by traveling to the main light in Downtown Banner Elk and traveling north (right) to Hwy 194. In approximately 1.5 miles, you will see Gualtney Road on the left; turn left onto Gualtney and travel approximately a quarter of a mile.

Bulldog Beer & Wine – Many people have never heard of Bulldog Beer & Wine Emporium. This fantastic place is located between Sugar Ski Resort and Ski Beech Resort in Downtown Banner Elk right next to Stonewall’s Restaurant, a great Banner Elk NC Restaurant. Every Friday night between 5pm and 8pm, you can come out and sample some of the varieties that Bulldog’s local wine distributors have on hand. In addition to the great and affordable varieties of wine that Bulldog carries, the store also sells a great selection of high gravity and microbrewed beers. In the spring, they hope to offer beer tastings! We can’t wait!

These great places to check out local wines and microbrewed beers are located near some of our spectacular NC Web Cams. Check out the Boone Web Cams and Banner Elk Cams that we have in our directory of Mountain Cams in the High Country. We also spotlight the Ski Cams at local ski resorts, so if you’re heading up to the High Country for a ski vacation, check out the Sugar Mountain Snow Cams and Ski Beech Cams for excellent views of the slopes and conditions on the mountains.
