The Greater Avery Tour de Art will take place each month through October!

The area spotlighted by our Directory of Live Web Cams in North Carolina has long been celebrated by art connoisseurs because it is home to so many talented artisans. Inspired by the beauty of the NC High Country, the artists and craftspeople who live here create unique works of art that fall into a variety of categories. Pottery, paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and home décor are just a few of the many items that are produced by our residents.

For the second year in a row, the Greater Avery Tour de Art will be making it easier for residents and visitors to find out about the great galleries and impressive artists who call the High Country home. The second installment of this monthly event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eleven galleries and studios throughout Watauga County and Avery County North Carolina will participate in the tour, which will take place every fourth Saturday through the month of October.

This month, the Tour de Art has a lot to offer. In addition to fantastic art, you can stop by Kevin Beck Studio in Boone North Carolina to look at oil and pastel paintings of various landscapes—both local and otherwise—and enjoy a refreshing cup of organic herbal tea, or visit Alta Vista Gallery in Valle Crucis NC to celebrate owner Maria Santomasso-Hyde’s birthday with wine, birthday cake, and special savings. Linville River Pottery will also have organic treats on hand the day of the tour, so make sure to visit this working clay studio in Pineola. Rick and Valerie Beck, whose work is showcased at Banner Elk’s The Art Cellar Gallery, will be the featured artists for this month’s Tour de Art, and a reception will be held in their honor from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Here, guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with these internationally acclaimed glass sculptors.

Maps are available at each location, and helpful signs guide guests from gallery to gallery. The Tour de Art is not only a wonderful way to support our extremely talented local artists, but it’s a fun way for both locals and visitors alike to explore the High Country and visit parts of the area with which they might not be familiar.
