Bele Chere Asheville Festival

The downtown Asheville Bele Chere Festival takes place every year near the end of the July. A more than thirty-year tradition, this music and arts hometown festival brings 3 days of fun, crafts, live music, great food and drinks, and more over the weekend. People travel from all over to experience the fun atmosphere that takes place here and you can pick up lots of fun gifts and trinkets as well as there are numerous craft booths.

Shindig on the Green

The Shindig on the Green events take place at different points in July, August, and September in downtown Asheville at Pack Square Park. These fun summer concerts are always a great time and feature live music and dancing from local and regional acts.

Mountain Dance and Folk Festival

The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival is an Asheville Festival that has taken place in August since 1928 when a group of folk artists gathered to enjoy and inspire one another. The festival takes place at the Diana Wortham Theatre and is a fantastic opportunity to see some great live acts.

French Broad River Festival

The French Broad River Festival is an annual music and paddling festival that combines live entertainment with white water rafting and great fun along the banks of the French Broad River in nearby Hot Springs NC. This annual area Asheville NC Festival has taken place for more than a decade and grown from a small one day concert event to a full weekend of festival activities for the whole entire family.

Asheville Gem Fest

Asheville’s Gem Fest is an annual gathering of gemologists, gemstone dealers, and gem lovers of all kinds. Each year this event takes place at the Colburn Earth Science Museum in the middle of June. Visitors can browse the dealers and learn more about gems and minerals that are unique to Western North Carolina, a place where you will find numerous North Carolina Gem Mines.

Dickens Festival & Christmas at the Biltmore Estate

The Dickens Festival takes place during the month of December in the Biltmore Village, near the grounds of the Biltmore Estate Asheville NC Biltmore Home attraction. The festival is a historic celebration with costumed period characters, storytellers, carolers, and other performers. Visitors love visiting the Biltmore Village during this time when the village resembles a Victorian era village that could easily have been the inspiration for Charles Dickens’s infamous Christmas novel. Also during this time, the Biltmore Estate Home is decorated for Christmas and open for special Christmas tours.

Black Mountain Marathon & Mt Mitchell Challenge

It has been described as brutal, and one of the hardest climbs that a runner will ever run. However, that doesn’t stop numerous athletes and others from lining up to the Mt Mitchell Challenge that takes place in the cold month of February. The race begins at the bottom of the mountain, on Cherry Street in downtown Black Mountain NC, and follows trails that lead to the 6,684-foot summit of Mt Mitchell NC, eastern North America’s highest point! The amazing climb is one of the most physically demanding things with which most runners report contending; however, this year’s challenge in 2010 has proven to be even more harrowing as most of the trails are covered in deep snow.

Lake Eden Arts Festival

The LEAF Festival is an annual Black Mountain Festival that is held every year in October at Camp Rockamount. This fun community event brings together the bests of a variety of cultures and celebrates traditions in music and the arts while helping others to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Mt Mitchell Crafts Fair

The Mt Mitchell Crafts Fair, an annual event sponsored by the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce, takes place in Burnsville NC in early August. At the crafts fair you will find tons of craft booths selling all kinds of things including handmade items and delicious foods, and over 200 artists are represented each year.
