Appstate’s legendary summer festival, An Appalachian Summer Festival, which runs the entire month of July, began on June 27th and offers some unique shows during its kickoff week. On June 27th the festival was on the move when patrons visited Greensboro’s Triad theatre for a showing of the new play Providence Gap; however, it will return home for the July 1st show which features artists Janis Ian and Karla Bonoff. Ian is a Grammy award winning singer and songwriter and Karla Bonoff is a chart topper in her own right; we anticipate a fantastic show from these two amazingly talented women. Friday, July 2, the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts will host its Summer Exhibition Celebration from 7 to 9 p.m.; it is one of three major receptions that they host each year. Of course, during this festival there are daily workshops and seminars scheduled as well. Check out views of the downtown area of Boone and the beautiful Appstate NC Campus by clicking to the Boone Web Cam that is located near Howard’s Knob Overlook.

Eagles Nest’s First Annual Synergy on the Mountain will take place over the July 2-4th holiday period. One of the largest and most anticipated of the area’s annual extravaganzas, this event is sure to be a big hit. The Tee Pee Village in this amazing NC Gated Mountain Community will be transformed and visitors to the amazing lifestyle resort will be entertained and amused throughout the well planned and coordinated event. Break out your kilt and load up the bagpipes—the Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain gears up during July 8-11. Families from the Scottish clans from the United States and throughout the world will descend on the mountain to celebrate all things Celtic. Gaelic bands, Scottish food, and loads of entertainment in the form of games and craft shows make this event a huge hit each year.
